Challenge: Reducing the tax liability of every American.
I am a strong advocate of decreasing every American's tax liability. Lower taxes means more money in your hands that can be spent to keep our economy strong and moving forward.
An annual poll, conducted by Chief Executive magazine in January 2008, ranked Pennsylvania as the 13th Worst state in which to do business. In the same poll, Pennsylvania was ranked 48 out of 50 in economic growth rate.
I will work collaboratively to develop and provide incentives to encourage businesses to remain in the state; grow jobs; and improve the local economies by: Encouraging and supporting initiatives that spur entrepreneurship Working with telecom and cable providers to create an infrastructure with faster DSL speeds and Broadband options as an incentive for industries and businesses to relocate to our district. Promoting State College as an ideal model for encouraging economic growth and increasing Pennsylvania’s prosperity.
Continuing to incur large federal deficits, year after year, will have disastrous long-term consequences for our economy and our quality of life. It is irresponsible and short-sighted to put our generation’s government spending on a “credit card” that our children and grandchildren will have to pay off.
I strongly believe that the federal government has to maintain a balanced budget over the long run and that Congress must be more fiscally responsible. I will zealously support federal budget plans that produce smaller annual deficits and restrain federal spending in order to achieve a balanced budget.
Given its aging population and losses of young adults, Pennsylvania badly needs to attract and retain more highly educated younger workers, including the enviable flow of top students who pass through our many colleges and universities. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to build and maintain the skilled and educated workforce necessary to spawn high-paying knowledge jobs and cultivate entrepreneurialism in our district.
Working with our young workforce and providing tax credits to Pennsylvania college and university graduates who remain in our state will be one of my top priorities. I will work with my colleagues in congress as well as our state lawmakers to craft an In-State Higher Education Tax Credit plan. The plan would give in-state college graduates tax credits or loan forgiveness for staying in-state to work. The plan will scale appropriately as graduates grow their companies and create jobs.
